Getting started with PathoGenius®
PathoGenius® offers DNA guided, personalized medicine for wound care.
PathoGenius® offers specifically designed Rapid screening for ENT applications and comprehensive bacterial and fungal diagnostics.
PathoGenius® extends rapid screen molecular diagnostics for ENT and respiratory viruses.
PathoGenius® offers specifically designed Rapid screening for BV as well as comprehensive bacterial and fungal diagnostics persistent infections.
Two types of molecular microbial diagnostic tests are offered at PathoGenius®. In both types of analysis, the microbial DNA is extracted from the patient's swab, washing, or tissue sample. The microbial DNA is then analyzed using molecular diagnostic methods. The report contains information about the pathogenic organisms detected.
The Level 1 Rapid Screen diagnostic panels are designed for each specific application to screen for about 24 of the most commonly identified microbes of concern in that field of medicine using quantitative PCR. Thus, the Level 1 Wound panel is different from the Level 1 ENT panel.
Sample collection and shipping kits supplied by PathoGenius® instill quality assurance in diagnostic results by following proper specimen management according to the American Society for Microbiology Guidelines in the following ways:
1. Ensures that patient specimens are collected, transported, and stored properly
3. Minimizes staff training by simplifying and standardizing collection materials
4. Eliminates the need for clinic to stock perishable sampling supplies
The health care practitioner needs to decide what level of testing is necessary, and Contact us to obtain sample collection and shipping supplies. Collect and ship patient samples with the PathoGenius® sample collection kits, and ship it using the pre-paid FedEx Priority Overnight shipping labels we supply. Results are delivered within 24-48 hours for Level 1 tests, and within about 1 week for Level 2 tests.
1. Turn round time of approximately 24 hours from receipt of sample.
2. The Specimen is examined for about 24 of the most commonly identified microbes of interest within the field of medicine serviced.
3. Approximately 80% of Level 1 samples are positive for at least one pathogen.
For wounds and nasal screening, this rapid, quantitative screen includes:
• Staphylococcus (including MRSA)
• Streptococcus
• Haemophilus
• Enterococcus (including VRE)
• Pseudomonas
• Serratia
• Candida
• And many more...
1. The microbial DNA is extracted from the specimen, and then sequenced using the most advanced next generation sequencing platforms available to specifically identify the pathogens.
2. This method meticulously examines the sample for known/unknown pathogens.
3. A detailed, statistical report of all pathogens is provided to you within 1 week after your samples are received.
Level 2 DecodexTM test is the first universally comprehensive bacterial and fungal diagnostic test. This test determines with sequence level accuracy what the pathogens are present and in what relative abundance they appear in the sample. This process is accomplished using comparative DNA sequencing analysis, which is widely considered to be the best genotypic method for microbial identification. The most common approach is PCR amplification and sequencing of the ribosomal RNA gene. The process was originally developed around the Roche 454 pyrosequencing system. Now, data is generated by the latest, cutting edge sequencing platforms available; such as, Ion Torrent PGM, Ion Proton, and Illumina. Data is compared against a sequence database, which is constantly curated and contains only validated microbial sequences. Knowing what the pathogens are is the first step to developing a targeted therapy. Most infections are polymicrobial. PathoGenius® diagnostics will help the physician determine what the major populations of pathogens are contributing to the bioburden of the patient, and ultimately to the disease state of the patient.
1. Turn around time of approximately 48 hours from the receipt of sample.
2. The specimen is examined for about 15 of the most commonly identified viruses of interest in respiratory disease.
3. A detailed report relating the presence or absence of viral components is provided
